Pumpkin spice makes autumn so nice. Just imagine what it can do for your skin.
Seriously—pumpkin isn’t just magical when it comes to pies and lattes. Its natural alpha hydroxy acids and abundant antioxidants make it a potent base for an incredible, edible face mask. The AHAs exfoliate skin and promote cell turnover, and antioxidant vitamins A and C can help neutralize free radical damage and even boost collagen production.
For a supercharged fall facial, combine pumpkin with soothing oats, moisturizing coconut oil, and another secret weapon: turmeric. This rustic spice is also high in antioxidants and possesses over two dozen anti-inflammatory compounds, which can help alleviate breakouts and dryness.
Here’s a DIY face mask recipe to give you a warm autumn glow just in time for holiday season.
DIY Pumpkin-Turmeric Face Mask
2 tablespoons canned pumpkin puree
1 teaspoon coconut oil, melted
½ teaspoon turmeric
1 tablespoon oats, ground
In a small bowl, mix pumpkin puree, coconut oil, and turmeric.
In a blender or food processor, pulverize oats into a fine flour-like texture. Sprinkle into pumpkin mixture and thoroughly combine.
Apply all over face with fingers. Leave on for 20 minutes.
Before rinsing, gently work the ingredients into skin with hands in circular motions, about 1 minute. Rinse off and apply oil or moisturizer. (Apply SPF if going out in daylight.)
